Japanese fishing tackle has been around for years with great reputations on both quality and craftsmanship. Names like Daiwa and Shimano are synonymous with great fishing reels and have been huge players for decades. Of late, Japanese companies have come to the forefront with great products like the Gary Yamamoto Senko and the world class Gamakatsu hooks. Yes, the names are at times a bit hard to get used to saying, but once you learn them you remember them for one very good reason, they work!
On top of being top of the line in terms of quality, Japanese fishing lures are great for the actual art of catching fish. These lures are not meant to only catch the fisherman, but more importantly the fish lurking under the water's surface. While Shimano is widely held as the top of the line spinning reel manufacturer, ask any fisherman who has used Gamakatsu hooks and you will quickly learn that their reputation proceeds them. Those hooks are crazy sharp and isn't that what we really want when we are fishing?
The hardest to find of all the tackle are the Japanese fishing crankbaits, with great brands like MegaBass, Deps, Lucky Craft, Yo-Zuri, Jackall Bros and many others. While the price can be a bit to take at first blush, the fact is that these lures flat out catch fish. For instance, the MegaBass crankbaits are very popular on the pro fishing tours. Prominent crankbaits include the Ito Vision 110, the Dog-X, and the X-300.
